Right-Size Your Home

March 13, 2019

There’s a lot to be said for simplifying your life. Get rid of the clutter that takes space in your life without adding value. Maybe it’s not just “stuff” that’s weighing you down, but your living space. Are you ready to “right-size” your life? If the answer is “yes”, Homes By Taber suggests you start with your home.

If you follow the advice organization expert, Marie Kondo, you would only keep those possessions that bring joy. When you pare down your treasures, you might find that you have more space than you need—or want. More square footage means more housework and more yard means more yardwork. Do you really want more of that?

Instead, ask yourself what would add value and joy to your life. It’s really not about the square footage but how you use it. You might want a smaller home or just something that better fits your style, like a laundry room closer to the master bedroom or an open floor plan with a center island kitchen.

The right features

“Right-sizing” means fitting your life—including possessions—to the way you want to live now. Maybe your kids have grown and moved out. Or you’d like a single-level home so you can say “goodbye” to stairs. And wouldn’t it also be great to have a master suite that truly lived up to its name?

Start fresh in a place that reflects this stage of your life. You’re not giving up anything, just changing. Move to a new home that offers far more—updated style, amenities, superior construction, energy efficiency, and close proximity to the things that matter in your life.

Today’s new homes incorporate the latest in technology, design, and construction advances. Picture yourself in an updated kitchen, with brand new appliances, custom cabinetry, the durable beauty of granite countertops, a walk-in pantry, and a wall-mounted oven and microwave. Think about the richness of wood look tile floors, freshly laid, the spacious comfort of a great room, and a sun-filled dining nook. Imagine sitting at your breakfast bar with your morning coffee and looking out over the back yard or a fire in your fireplace. How would this improve your life?

Homes By Taber includes all of these features…and more. Our mission of “proudly overbuilt” homes is reflected in extras, like a fully finished outdoor living space. It’s move-in ready, wired for electricity and cable, and has a gas line to hook up your grill, rather than lugging around and refilling a propane tank. The patio also includes a wood-burning fireplace. Does your current home have these things?

A new home could also provide greater performance than your current one. Energy-efficient features enhance the comfort and lower the energy use (and bills!). A HERS rating measures a home’s performance for conserving energy. Homes By Taber’s average HERS score is 46, which means our homes are 44% MORE energy-efficient than typical new homes and 74% greater than the average resale home, saving you an estimated $1,508 a year in energy bills.

You should also look at the safety features of your home. In Oklahoma, it’s an absolute must to have a storm shelter. Taber LeBlanc, our company’s founder and owner, insists that a storm shelter be a standard feature in every home we build. He is also definite about including a whole-home air filtration system to give you healthy indoor air quality and a security system for added protection in an emergency.

When aging in place is important for your new home, an open floor plan is a definite plus for navigating spaces with the aid of a walker or wheelchair. We can easily add other features as well, like wider door frames, ADA toilets, and handrails. Think ahead now and you can save time later!

Our homes offer more standard features than any other builder, because we focus on the quality and value your home provides.

The right location

Moving to a new home doesn’t need to require you to move far away—unless you want to. You don’t need to leave behind everything that is familiar to you. Stay close to your family and friends. Don’t give up your trusted doctor or your favorite salon or market.

You also don’t need to move to a 55+, age-restricted community. Those “restrictions” often impact more than your age. You might not be able to bring your pets or entertain your family (including grandchildren) for overnight visits. Some active adult communities limit other conveniences, like parking your car in your driveway.

Instead, think about an unrestricted community, where you can enjoy the company of a more diverse variety of neighbors. Your grandchildren can make new friends, particularly if your neighborhood offers community amenities like a swimming pool, playground, and parks.

You might also be required to pay a hefty maintenance fee in those restricted communities. Instead, choose a home that’s designed for low-maintenance. Don’t forget a new home is covered by a builder’s warranty and the systems and products (including appliances) are protected by the manufacturer’s warranty. Homes by Taber even offers 24 hour, emergency customer care, so you will always be taken care of no matter the time or day.

The “just right” communities

We invite you to look at some of Homes By Taber’s communities of new construction, single-family homes. Castlebrook Crossing is a gated community in Yukon. Homes here are sized from 1,800 to 2,800 square feet, so they could be the right size you’re looking for. We’ve incorporated four ponds with walking trails, plus a beautiful swimming pool and a fully equipped playground, with plans for a basketball court, t-ball field, and soccer field that will make your home feel like a vacation to your young visitors.

TimberCrest in Edmond is just minutes from I-35, so it’s a great location for getting in and around Edmond and the entire OKC area. Shopping, dining, entertainment, activities, and great healthcare are so close, with a new Integris Health of Edmond and Mercy Clinic Primary Care Hospital right off of I-35! TimberCrest is surrounded by trees and features plenty of recreation inside the community: a beautiful mile-long walking trail, dog park, huge playground, 9-hole disc golf course, soccer field, football field, and will soon have a swimming pool, too.

Don’t sit back and wonder where life will take you. Grab the reins and steer your future. Make the choice to live according to your own terms—living fully and with all the extras you deserve. Take a virtual tour of our floor plans and then come talk to us at Homes By Taber to elevate downsizing to a higher level.

Our Happy Homeowners

Just finished an inspection with darling couple buying a Homes by Taber home. What other builder encourages a 3rd party inspection? Not any I can think of. The inspector was impressed by so many details, from the quality of the paint to the proper installation of the gas stove. It is such a pleasure to see how Taber Leblanc and his company have evolved through the years...always improving on their ...
