Inspiration for Your Color Selection Meeting

January 20, 2021

At Homes by Taber, we believe the difference is in the details. That’s why we work alongside our future homeowners during every stage of the process, to ensure no detail is overlooked—no matter how small it may seem. We want to create a home that reflects each homeowner’s personality, while fulfilling specific needs and wants for a functional and livable space.

Step four in our new home buying process is the color selection meeting, where customers get the opportunity to work with our talented designers to select the finishes, colors and materials that will be featured in the interior and exterior of their Taber home. It’s the time to showcase your style, and find a design that will bring your future home to life.

Whether you know exactly what you’re looking for in terms of design or aren’t totally sure where to begin, we’re here to help. We asked Bailey, our Director of Design, for a few tips on ways to find inspiration and prepare before your color selection meeting.

Tip #1: Walk through our model homes

Furnished neighborhood model homes are an amazing, practical resource for Taber buyers looking to find design options for their house. A tour of a model home brings our photo and video galleries to life, so you can take note of what you’re drawn to, what you’d change, and get a feel for what it would be like to actually live in the space. And because we keep our model homes up-to-date with the materials we use, you’re not likely to be shown something you can’t actually have in your future home.

Thanks to our Proudly Overbuilt promise, we include more standard features in our homes than any other builder in Oklahoma. That way, you won’t have to compromise on the look, quality and safety of your home. See for yourself what we include by scheduling a home tour, in-person or via video chat

Tip #2: Save pictures or videos you love

Bailey recommends scrolling social media, flipping through magazines or watching popular home design shows on television to draw inspiration from. Along with Pinterest, which has been a known resource for design and decor ideas for a long time, Instagram’s upgraded search features have made it easier than ever to discover accounts that showcase a wide variety of interior styles. By typing specific terms or design styles into the search bar, you’ll see posts from multiple accounts that showcase what you’re looking for. To browse through different home styles and pinpoint what you’re most drawn to, some of our favorite brands to follow include Apartment Therapy, Better Homes & Gardens, Architectural Digest and HGTV—but the options are endless.

Just like Instagram and other social media platforms, home-focused magazines and television shows can give you a glimpse into how other people style their homes. No matter what medium you’re searching through, make sure you capture what you love to show our designers. Whether it’s in an online folder of links, photos and videos or displayed on a cut-and-paste vision board, we’re happy to take your sources of inspiration and channel it into the thoughtfully-designed home of your dreams.

Tip #3: Consider colors of the year

Choosing the right colors for your home is more important than you probably think. Various studies in the field of psychology have shown that colors are associated with different moods, and can evoke a variety of emotions and feelings in humans. Therefore, color scheme selection is truly setting the tone for your future home and will showcase you and your family’s personality.

There are tried-and-true colors that work in almost every home, providing the blank slate that many homeowners want. Shades of grey, white and beige are easily matched to a variety of wood hues, accent colors and furniture fabrics—making it easy to redecorate and shift the vibe in your home without taking on a painting project. If you like to keep up with the latest trends in home decor, consider using colors of the year in your Taber home. Our design team is happy to help you incorporate PPG’s (our preferred paint brand) colors of the year for 2021, which include: Transcend (warm beige), Misty Aqua (cerulean blue) and Big Cypress (muted orangey-pink).

Bailey’s take on these colors for 2021 have a lot to do with spending more time at home. Transcend and Big Cypress offer warmth and coziness with their muted tones, while Misty Aqua brings in a splash of brightness and calmness that isn’t overwhelming. Bailey suggests pairing these colors with honey-toned wood-look tile flooring to really tie everything together, and decorating with patterned textures and bohemian-style accents.

Tip #4: Use existing furniture and decor

Another great approach to finding your ideal design is with your existing furniture and decor. Our designers can get a good sense of what you like (and maybe dislike) by looking at what you currently own. We can find ways to bring new life to your existing belongings and finding colors and finishes that will complement them perfectly—saving you the additional expense of buying new furniture or recovering it after your move.

Tip #5: Don’t feel tied down to one theme throughout

We all want our homes to feel cohesive, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Our designers love working with homeowners to find spots in their home to liven up or stray from the theme they’ve developed in other areas of the house. Powder bathrooms, primary bathrooms, bonus rooms and even laundry rooms are popular places to use a funky art deco tile, include a pop of bright color or include a bold light fixture.

Homes by Taber wants our customers to have fun with their homes, and never feel tied down to a specific look or feel. We’re here to find what you like and want to see in your home, not what the person next door dreamed of. Check out some of our favorite combinations and design choices that can be personalized to fit your style.

Our Happy Homeowners

As a home inspector, I come across Taber-built homes frequently. Without exception these inspections are somewhat boring for me as there just isn’t a lot to find. Today, for example, a new build broke my inspection record for fewest deficiencies. They just build solid, efficient homes with great features. Highly recommended!
