Spooky and Sweet—Don’t Miss Out on Our Favorite Fall Events Around Oklahoma City

October 17, 2022

After the summer heat has officially left the building and before the winter winds kick in, there is a moment in the year where the weather is especially pristine. We’re speaking, of course, about the autumn season, and throughout the Greater Oklahoma City area, our team at Homes by Taber knows that there is no better time of the year that brings out the beauty of the community we love. With so many incredible fall events to explore, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorites that you will surely want to add to your calendar.

Roam through the pumpkin patches

Nothing gets you into the spirit of the season more than starting off your fall list of activities with a trip to one (or a few) of your favorite pumpkin patches, and when you live around the Greater OKC area, you will have more than your fair share of destinations to choose from.

It can easily be said that whenever you’re in doubt about how to spend your day in Oklahoma City, the Myriad Botanical Garden is always one place that never disappoints. The warm fall colors throughout the month of October offer some of the most stunning sights to be seen across the area, so when you mix that with the already beautiful scenery that can always be seen at the Myriad Botanical Garden, you will easily be able to spend hours wandering through the grounds without ever getting bored. The annual Pumpkinville festival is the largest event that is put on within the Botanical Garden, and it was just ranked as the best pumpkin patch in the United States. With over 30,000 pumpkins, gourds, haystacks and mums on display, the garden has completely been transformed into a magical autumn hideaway for all manners of witches, wizards and magical creatures to explore. Choose a pumpkin to decorate, visit all of the magical shops you desire and enjoy unlimited rides on Mo’s Carousel to round out your day. The festival continues until Sunday, October 23, giving you plenty of time to plan out your visit soon.

The Orr Family Farm is another must visit for all those in the Greater Oklahoma City area. A perfect destination for individuals of all ages, the farm boasts an endless array of activities throughout the year, but we must admit that the fall season is truly our favorite. It is almost impossible to experience everything the farm has to offer in just a single day, so we don’t blame you if you keep coming back for more. Enjoy a walk through the pumpkin patch, explore the grounds on the hayride, pony rides and train ride, release your energy at the farmin foosball, giant jumping pillows and pedal cars and don’t forget to snag your favorite treats on your way out at the Orr Family Farm Famous Cookie Barn.

Embrace the spooky spirit of the season

While finding the perfect pumpkin to carve or drinking as much hot apple cider as you’re able are completely valid ways to spend your time this season, sometimes there’s nothing better than spending your evenings at the spookiest spot in town.

During the daytime hours the Frontier City Amusement Park is filled with excitement and laughter that creates a fun atmosphere for all of your loved ones to enjoy. When October sets in, however, and the day turns to night, the park turns into Fright Fest. Even with the haunted house attractions of Mayhem, Nightmare, Phobia, Death and the Garden of Evil as their own sights to be seen all around the park, the entire location completely comes alive with multiple scare zones scattered throughout the area.

Next up on our list is the highly-anticipated Wicked Forest of Terror, Oklahoma’s most intense haunted forest. As soon as you take your first steps into the forest, you will instantly be transported into a scene straight out of the best (or the scariest) horror film you’ve ever seen. The actors roaming throughout the forest have been completely transformed to embody your worst nightmares, and making it through the forest at all is an accomplishment in itself. While the terrors are on a level all their own, all of your loved ones will be able to take part in this event, no matter what. Stop by with your kids any night before sundown for Tiny Terror where you can walk through the intricate forest decorations without any distractions and see your children light up at the scenes they can explore.

Another event that is perfect for the kids is the 39th annual Haunt the Zoo at the OKC Zoo. With the fall festival in full swing throughout the park, your entire family will find their favorite activities to partake in, no matter what. Dress up in your favorite costumes, enjoy your time spent exploring the zoo during the day, get in line for every fall activity and don’t forget to bring the biggest bag you can find in order to get your favorite sweet treats out of this trick-or-treating event.

Get your fill of sweet treats

Continuing on the trick-or-treating trend, it wouldn’t be the fall season without mentioning some more of our favorite spots that are sure to satisfy your sweet tooth as you celebrate Halloween night.

The Bricktown area offers a festive backdrop for this year’s Brick-or-Treat event, and you won’t want to miss out on everything it has in store. On Monday, October 24 from 4p.m. until 7p.m., dress to the nines in your best costumes and bring your kids out for a fun night on the town. Take pictures with your favorite characters roaming the streets, listen to the spookiest tunes over the speaker and let your kids fill up on as much candy as their hearts desire during this one night only, trick-or-treating event.

This year on Saturday, October 29 from 11a.m. until 6p.m., you’ll definitely want to make your way to the iconic destination of Scissortail Park for the Enchanted Treat Trail. Start at the upper park and let your kids take the lead as you walk through the Hansel and Gretal-themed event in the pristine fall weather and collect all the candy you can find.

Circling back to the Orr Family Farm, you also won’t want to miss out on their annual Trick-Orr-Treat event taking place throughout the day on both Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30. Come in your best costume and spend the day exploring the farm and collecting your favorite candy bars all along the way.

Celebrate your favorite seasons in your hometown

No matter what the season, the Greater Oklahoma City area will always have an endless array of activities for all of your loved ones to enjoy. While we love putting on our best flannel jackets and fuzzy winter hats and trekking out to find the perfect pumpkin to carve, there is admittedly nothing better than coming home at the end of the day with your loved ones, curling up on the couch in your Taber living room with Hocus Pocus on the big screen and a warm mug of hot chocolate in your hands.
