Homes by Taber employees showed up on Saturday, February 25, to pitch in on building a new home. They weren’t all part of our regular construction crew, but this wasn’t a regular project! Homes By Taber is sponsoring a new home that is being built in Legacy Estates, in northwest Oklahoma City. This community is a development for the Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, which is committed to providing decent and affordable homes for people in need.
Our group showed up bright and early on Saturday morning to begin framing the home, working side by side with the owners-to-be! Our North Field Manager, Devin Akins, was one of the Homes By Taber crew who eagerly volunteered for this worthwhile project.
“As homebuilders, this is an opportunity to use our knowledge and skills to help others. As members of the community, it’s just something that we do for our neighbors,” Devin said.
When it’s completed, Legacy Estates will include 142 homes for Habitat for Humanity families. The plans for the 37.64-acre community also include a beautiful park and playground. Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity has been responsible for completing more than 870 homes in the region, with 45 to 50 more each year.
This is Homes By Taber’s first company-wide volunteer project under the Taber Cares charitable giving initiative. With a committee comprised of a member from each department, we support a wide variety of organizations throughout the Oklahoma City region.
Homes by Taber employees working as a hands-on team to raise the wall of this new home. Beginning in January 2017, the Taber Cares committee has chosen a charity each month for fundraising efforts. For every Homes By Taber home sold during that month, the organization receives a $250 donation from us. The Oklahoma Youth Expo was presented with a $6,250 check for our January contribution.
The February recipient is The Anna’s House Foundation, which secures immediate, loving foster homes for children in the custody of the state. Our March charity, Infant Crisis Services, provides formula, food, and diapers for babies and toddlers, to extend care and comfort for our region’s tiniest residents.
We encourage everyone to pitch in and help whenever and wherever you can. Every step contributes to big changes.
